The fans have spoken once again, only this time in James Blunt’s favour – He aimed to reach number one on the charts, and he failed! But boy, did he celebrate the moment!

Global (22 October 2024)James Blunt had his very own jump-on-the-sofa moment this week in celebration of his album not hitting number one on the charts. You might be thinking, that doesn’t sound right, and you would be right! James was celebrating the failure because now he doesn’t need to legally change his name.

He has started a challenge to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ back on top of the charts, and if it hit #1, he would legally change his name to whatever the most popular suggestion is. The suggestion was to change his name to Blunty McBluntface.

The album, which includes fan favourites like ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Goodbye My Lover’, and ‘High’, was reproduced in honour of the anniversary. The goal is to get it to number one by the end of October.

Every artist hopes to have their album reach number one but in James’ case, he was absolutely relieved when the news broke that his album had failed to hit the mark.

Take a look at his hilarious reaction below:

South African comedian Themba Robin has done it again, leaving the nation in stitches with his latest viral skit—this time hilariously pitching the controversial pandemic “Ambulance Scooters” on Dragons Den UK in a side-splitting spoof that perfectly captures our unique sense of humour.

Johannesburg, South Africa (15 October 2024) – South Africans are no strangers to turning challenging situations into moments of laughter and this latest video by local comedian Themba Robin is a shining example of that spirit.

In a hilarious twist, Themba took to the global stage of Dragons’ Den UK (well, sort of) to pitch the now-famous “Ambulance Scooters”—and the internet can’t stop laughing!

Known for his witty skits and comedic genius, Themba has gained a huge following on social media for his ability to tackle everyday issues with humour that resonates deeply with South Africans. Whether it’s poking fun at load shedding or doing parody interviews, his content always delivers a much-needed laugh.

And, once again, he isn’t disappointing us!

In his latest comedic masterpiece, Themba spliced real footage from Dragons’ Den UK, inserting himself into the scene as an enthusiastic entrepreneur pitching a wild idea—Ambulance Scooters. For those unfamiliar, the concept of ambulance scooters was introduced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. These scooters, “designed” to navigate through congested areas more quickly than traditional ambulances, sparked a lot of controversy, with many questioning their practicality and effectiveness. While some (mostly in government) saw it as a necessary solution in a time of crisis, others couldn’t help but poke fun at the idea.

Of course, Themba’s take on it is pure gold! In the video, he confidently pitches the scooters to the Dragons, highlighting their “sleek” design and “innovative” purpose. The result? A mash-up of serious business talk and absurdity that had viewers crying with laughter. The editing is so spot-on that it feels as though the Dragons are genuinely (not) considering this offbeat pitch.

The video has gone viral, and the reaction on social media is priceless!

“My aunt sleeps with the Minister of Transport….. I’m on the floor.”

“Only a true South African could understand this humour.”

“This made my day! 😂 Us South Africans survive on humour!”

“That almost made me pee my pants!”

So, if you’re in need of a good laugh today, do yourself a favour and watch the video—it’s guaranteed to brighten your day and leave you in stitches.

It’s official: James Blunt fans have decided on his new name, but they still need to make his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ reach number one on the charts for him to actually change his legal name.

Global (14 October 2024) – If you missed it, James Blunt set a challenge for his fans to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, to the top of the charts. As a reward for his efforts, he legally changed his name to whatever the masses voted for.

The album, which has fan favourites like ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Goodbye My Lover’ and ‘High’, has been reproduced in honour of the anniversary, and the goal is to get it to number one by the end of October.

Naturally, it can be found on all major streaming services, so if you are keen to get in on the fun – start listening right this moment, and very soon, James won’t be James anymore!

It really is clever marketing! So then… What is the new name?

Well, the votes are in, and the name everyone has chosen is “Blunty McBluntface”.

The people have spoken! While we agree that the imagination for this one was slightly lacking (we are still team James Beige), it’s so wholesome seeing James engage with his fans in such a funny manner. The world needs more public figures who are not scared to have a bit of fun on social media.

James Blunt has started a challenge for the world and in return, he will legally change his name – the funny musician has been making us all laugh out loud with his antics surrounding this challenge.

Global (09 October 2024)James Blunt has a brilliantly dry sense of humour and while he is incredibly talented in the music department, he also has wit and constantly leaves people giggling.

He has started a challenge to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ back on top of the charts and if it hits #1, he will legally change his name to whatever the most popular suggestion is.

“Wanna ruin my life? If the 20th Anniversary Edition of my album “Back To Bedlam” re-enters the charts at number 1, I will legally change my name – to whatever you guys decide. Comment on this post below with suggestions for my name change, or like someone else’s comment to vote. The comment with the most likes on this post across my social media profiles on 11th October – when the album is released – wins. And then the race to number 1 begins!”

There have been some interesting names suggested, but personally, it’s James Beige for us. That one earned a hearty chuckle. Another goodie was Yerb Eautiful. James even put up a recommendation of his own… “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star Four Chord Song Machiney?”

Since sharing the challenge, he has been having fun on social media, sharing his famed dry humour in all sorts of funny ways.

So what do you reckon? Are you in for a “Back to Bedlam” reboot? What name are you loving? Do you think James has anything to worry about?

In a fun twist, James Blunt was recently in South Africa for his tour, and he loved his time in Cape Town!

Irish musician Garron Noone embarked on a hilarious culinary adventure of South Africa’s most iconic snacks. His journey was filled with laughter, confusion, and a whole lot of chewing!

Dublin, Ireland (08 October 2024) – Whether sweet or savoury, there is nothing quite like a lekker snack to feed a random craving, enjoy game day with friends or just see you through a really long day.

Indulging himself in South Africa’s unique treats was Irish musician and comedian Garron Noone, who had us laughing out loud after sharing his experience of our unique flavours, which completely caught his pallet off-guard!

In the funny video, Garron starts off by tasting dry sausage, known to us as droëwors, which he admitted he was most afraid of. Describing it as extremely chewy, Garron said it was a powerful attack of meat on the tongue but was a fan of it nonetheless.

He gave biltong a go next and advised his friends planning a trip to South Africa to bring their strongest chewing muscles.

He washed down the meaty snacks with a Spar-Letta cream soda, whose bright green hue caught him off guard.

“There’s definitely some artificial colouring there. That does not look like a natural green colour. It’s delicious. Tastes like cream soda. Tastes absolutely nothing like it looks. So it’s a bit of a culture shock when you’re looking at it.”

Garron completed his culinary adventure with some sweet goodness, the koeksister – whose pronunciation he hilariously butchered, by the way!

He wasn’t sure what to compare it to, likening it to a gooey fruit or a Danish of sorts.

“I have absolutely no idea what it is. A kind of oily pastry that’s been dipped in a sugary syrup. It’s nice. It’s confusing but it’s got flavour. One of the weirdest things I’ve ever held in my hand and now it’s in my body. I’m a fan of this,” he shared hilariously.

The post’s comments section was riddled with banter and funny commentary from social media users who were amused by the Irishman’s take on the local snacks.

Well, our food may have given him quite the culture shock but at least it was a good one, LOL!

Charlene Morrison shares her take on dating in your late 30s, which is a funny take on swipe culture and sticky bar floors.

South Africa (02 October 2024) – Navigating the dating game in your late 30s is one hell of a rollercoaster.

We are living in a world of swipe culture where we stay home, exercising our thumbs, swiping left and right in the hope of finding either a date or true love.

We swipe based on a couple of photos and a badly written bio with some personality prompts, yet we would never deem ourselves as superficial.

Matching with someone nowadays gives you as much excitement as swiping your Checkers Xtra Savings card. You have a vague idea of what you’re going into but I can assure you the only discount you’ll receive is an empty one.

The chats are pitiful, to say the least; where it starts off with “Hey beautiful” and then a quick exchange of pleasantries, but before you know it, he wants to send you pics of his actual pleasantries. Ones that weren’t requested, nor was any interest shown to receive.

I mean, imagine these scenarios were replicated in real life. Girl meets a guy at the bar; guy buys girl drink, girl flirts, then boom, out comes your pleasantries. Come on, people. We are all in this bizarre dating world together; some of us are slightly bitter, some are looking for fun, but most are looking for a little love and romance. Let’s clean up our acts.

When it’s time to give your thumb a break from swiping left and right, you convince yourself to get out and mingle with actual humans without having to look through their photos and read made-up bios.

Welp! Entering a bar, loud music, tons of people, some are which have forgotten their names or their dignity however it’s time to be positive, who knows you might meet someone?

The most action received that night was being mushed together with a bunch of strangers at the bar whilst waiting 45 minutes for a drink. The floors were as sticky as they were at Billy the Bums 15 years ago. My shoelace came in tied twice, probably because I’d forgotten how to walk in public since leaving the couch, but all I could think of was the laces touching the sticky floor. Gosh, I’m getting old.

There were a lot of people, a lot of good-looking people at that, but man the wedding rings were out in full force. I don’t recall this many people been married when I was, maybe I wasn’t paying attention lol.

Now the issue is when venturing out; I tend to bring my resting bitch face, otherwise known as RBF, which makes me totally unapproachable. I wonder if this is how I come across dating apps, too?

Needless to say, as much as I was pumped to go out and have fun, which I did, I was mildly disappointed that I, myself, would have rather been slothing about on my couch, drinking wine alone, tiring my thumbs out thinking there’s no one out there for me.

Everything is confusing, from meeting people online to meeting people outside the digital world. At least no one showed me their pleasantries at the bar.

To wrap this up, I’ll say this: you cannot see the bottom of the dating pool, find your happiness within you, then maybe one of the plenty bar hopping, dating app swiping techniques may just present you with a suitor.

The 2024 EMMY® Award Nominations have been announced and South Africa’s Takalani Sesame has earned its second nomination for a very important special. We have very big and very good feelings about this!

South Africa (26 September 2024) – Another year, another International Emmy® Awards nomination for South Africa’s Takalani Sesame, as the premier children’s TV programme has been nominated for a 2024 International Emmy® in the Kids: Factual category, for its Takalani Sesame Big Feelings Special.

“We’d like to thank The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for this honour, the nomination serves as profound recognition of the work we do,” says Mari Payne, Deputy Managing Director and Senior Director Education and Outreach, Sesame Workshop International South Africa (SWISA).

Michael de Nobrega shared a brilliant video of a zipliner being refreshingly splashed by a huge wave in Mossel Bay.

South Africa (26 September 2024) – Michael de Nobrega is a huge supporter of Mossel Bay, highlighting the beauty of the small town through his love of videography and photography. As an avid outdoorsman he often captures beautiful moments, like the time he filmed rare whales named Snowflake and Snow White off the coast of Hartenbos.

Michael is passionate about photographing the ocean life that can be found near Hartenbos, Mossel Bay. From stunning whales to bright pink flamingos and even injured birdlife, which Michael has shared to raise awareness about the plight of waste on our beaches.

While his love of birdlife is evident, he also enjoys highlighting what people can do while visiting the small town. One of the highlights is a zipline that runs over the ocean.

On a particularly gusty day, someone enjoying the zipline got more than they bargained for when a huge wave hit the rocks below and splashed up over the zipliner as they went past. Michael managed to capture the moment on camera.

If you would like to see all the beauty that Michael captures in Mossel Bay, you can follow his adventures here.

Take a look at the big splash below, do you reckon you would be brave enough to do this?

One of South Africa’s favourite words, ‘Beer boep’, has officially been added to the Oxford English Dictionary!

Global (20 September 2024) — The Oxford English Dictionary is enjoying beer-soaked updates to its latest edition just in time for Oktoberfest (AKA, the most important date on any beer lover’s calendar).

Although the word beer has been around for as long as the amber beverage has (appearing in lots of Old English sources), it has been adapted to fill pints of different experiences and descriptions.

Particularly for former British colonies, including New Zealand, Australia, and our own South Africa, beer is quite the celebrity beverage across social and cultural occasions. So, it’s no surprise that the word has transformed into everything from an activity like ‘beer-up’ all the way to the noun, ’beer hound’ (someone who drinks beer a little too enthusiastically, a little too often). A famous South African term has been added to the updated list—‘beer boep’!

The official definition per the Oxford Dictionary describes ‘beer boep’ as a noun that’s often depreciative It’s defined as: A protuberant belly or paunch [especially] on a man, attributed to beer consumption.”

While most South Africans just say boep (or if you’re in my father’s darts club, ‘boepies’), it’s exciting to see one of our country’s favourite words claim a space in the dictionary and potentially travel across the world because ‘beer belly’ simply doesn’t have the same zest.

Other freshly added official beer-related words include ‘beeriness’, having a ‘beer coat’ or ‘beer blanket’ (feeling somewhat immune to the cold thanks to the alcohol) and even ‘beer off’, which, to the disappointment of many, does not describe duel by beer but rather a name for parts of England where alcohol is sold for consumption off the premises.

Susan Viljoen cracked down on crime in her neighbourhood using a tray of eggs after a motivating pep-talk from a local security “eggspert”.

Gqeberha, South Africa (19 September 2024) –  Susan Viljoen attended a talk in 2022 that stuck with her. It was about personal security and how to remain calm when face-to-face with a criminal. She has always kept that advise front of mind until recently, when she needed to use it. Susan came face to face with a potentially dangerous situation and she defused it, by throwing eggs at the perpetrator.

Yes, eggs! Susan had just finished grocery shopping and placed her eggs on the passenger seat foot-well of her car. As she came to an intersection, a suspicious person made her feel uncomfortable and fear started bubbling up. But she remained calm, calling on the advise she got in 2022.

Bernadette Nel-Naude, a security specialist in Gqeberha, had hosted the personal safety talk in 2022 that Susan attended. She recently met Susan again for Secretaries Day where Susan shared with her, just how she managed to brave the moment her own safety was at risk.

“According to her story, she was driving home from the shops when she stopped to drop off a friend. She saw an unidentified person on the side of the road visibly pointing at her, and she realised that something bad was about to happen.

“She remembered my advice about not panicking. Reaching over to her seat to grab her phone, she found a tray of eggs she had just purchased. The unknown suspect was visibly nervous, and the lady started to pelt him with eggs, which caused him to scramble and run away quickly. Talk about cracking under pressure,” says Nel-Naude.

Susan was relieved when the suspicious person ran off. She was able to then get home safely. But the egg-citing story doesn’t end here. Susan needed to replace the eggs she had used. So she set off for the shops again and ended up being caught in an armed robbery… Eggs in hand, she took her shots and scared of the criminals who were holding the shop up.

“The lady explained that she went to the shops to buy replacements for the eggs she used to scare off the first suspect. When she arrived at a nearby convenience store, she found herself in the middle of an armed robbery being committed. Again using my advice to always remain calm, she jumped into action again and egg-sactly like before, she pelted the armed robbers with eggs until they fled the scene. Clearly, these crooks were not egg-specting an egg-citing counterattack,” says Nel-Naude.

Bernadette was left in awe of Susan’s actions. However, she says they don’t encourage members of the public to get involved in crime fighting, and it is never a good idea to confront suspects, especially if they are armed.

“I am, however, happy to see that she remembered how important it is to remain calm whenever something like this happens to you.

“Crime fighting is not always all it’s cracked up to be. But yolk-ing aside, we thank the residents of Gqeberha who work with us and the SAPS to keep our town safe. It’s teamwork that will ensure success, and it’s an egg-cellent way to keep the sunny side up. After all, no one wants to be caught with egg on their face!” says Nel-Naude.
