Children of the Dawn is working tirelessly to change the heartbreaking reality of young pupils facing the daily struggle of attending school without proper shoes.
Mpumalanga, South Africa (30 August 2024) – School shoes are an essential part of any uniform. Unfortunately, many young pupils don’t have proper footwear and are forced to go to school with badly worn shoes, slops, or in the worst case, barefoot.
Children of the Dawn, a local NPO and NGO that looks after orphaned and vulnerable children in rural areas across South Africa are working to provide school shoes to children in need to help them restore their dignity and feel like other kids at school.
The organisation is appealing to the greater public to purchase or donate a pair of school shoes for underprivileged children who are striving to get an education.
“We are aiming to raise funds to buy over 200 pairs of school shoes for our beneficiaries in our sites in Mpumaze, Matatiele, Lenyenye, Qwaqwa, Ermelo, Bushbuckridge, Mathabatha and Mangweni.
“We urge individuals, colleagues, friends, and companies to buy or donate a pair. The cost of a pair of school shoes is about R350 a pair. Your donations towards this initiative will be highly appreciated,” the organisation said.
Children of the Dawn have also created a GivenGain page and have a drop-off point at their main head office at The Media Mill, 7 Quince St, Milpark, Johannesburg, 2092.
