Jacques Joubert shared the heartwarming moment a young man offered him comfort; he had just found out his son had died and the man approached him with the kindest eyes.

South Africa (13 June 2024) – Jacques Joubert got the worst news any parent could get, the news that his son had passed away. Jacques was at the airport when the call came in, and as stunned onlookers watched, a young man approached him and extended such compassionate care that when he finally found the words to share the story online, his post went viral.

Jacques took to X, formally Twitter, to share how, in one of his most heartbreaking life moments, a young man who wanted nothing in return gave him the moment he needed to compose himself and get to his family.

“I was at Mugg & Bean at the Cape Town airport when my brother called. Weeping he told me my beloved son had died. My tears started rolling down my face and I burst out, “no no no my son has died!” Everyone froze, but not one young man who walked over to me. His eyes were filled with compassion that held me for long enough to gather my things. He offered to pay for my order as I fled sobbing out of the restaurant. He was black and I a middle-aged white man. This is the South Africa that I cherish.”

Jacques’ post has been seen thousands of times now with many South Africans sharing his sentiments about how cherished South Africa and her people are. And as always, we couldn’t agree more!

In times of crisis, always look for the helpers—or, as in this case, be the helper! We can all do so much for the people around us just by being kind and compassionate.
