South African music sensation The Kiffness has raised over R1 million to support eight-year-old Rylyn Clark in his battle against Lyme Disease, showcasing the incredible power of community and generosity.

South Africa (16 July 2024) – South Africans have always known how to come together and give back in remarkable ways, and this latest act of generosity is no exception.

The Kiffness, a beloved local music sensation, has once again used his platform to make a significant impact, raising over R1 million to support an eight-year-old boy battling Lyme Disease.

David Scott, known to many as The Kiffness, is one of South Africa’s most influential YouTubers. His unique musical talent and viral remixes have earned him a massive following. Despite occasionally stirring up controversy on social media, Scott is equally known for his immense generosity. Over the years, he has donated hundreds of thousands of rands to various charitable causes, all while creating music that touches the hearts of millions.

Rylyn Clark’s own musical talent resonated with millions when, at just four years old, he went viral for his adorable rendition of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” during the height of the pandemic.

His performance, filled with hope and positivity, was a source of comfort during a time of global uncertainty.

Inspired by Rylyn’s heartfelt singing, Scott sampled his performance in one of his signature remixes back in 2020. Fast-forward four years, and young Rylyn’s life has taken a difficult turn. Diagnosed with Lyme Disease, he has been bravely fighting the illness for nearly two years.

Moved by Rylyn’s ongoing health struggles, Scott reshared the song with a heartfelt plea for support.

“The song is making the rounds again at another time of great political uncertainty and serves as a gentle reminder that everything is going to be alright no matter what happens in the world,” Scott explained. “That being said, he [Rylyn] hasn’t made a cent from his [original] video.”

Twelve days ago, Scott launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Rylyn’s medical expenses. The response was nothing short of extraordinary. In just 24 hours, the campaign raised over R300,000; as of July 8th, the total had reached an astounding R600,000.

Today, the fund just hit $55,168, which at the current exchange rate amounts to R1,004,267.24. Yes, you read that right: donations have just surpassed R1 million!

“On behalf of Rylyn and his mom, Maureen, I would like to thank each and every person who has contributed towards Rylyn’s fight against Lyme disease,” Scott shared. “The amount we have raised so far has far exceeded all of our wildest expectations, and it is a great example of the power of social media to make meaningful change in people’s lives.”

Maureen, overwhelmed by the generosity, expressed her deep gratitude for the support. With Rylyn’s immune system severely compromised and his current treatments proving ineffective, the funds raised offer a glimmer of hope.

“We continue to be overwhelmed by the love and support and generosity of so many people, from so many different countries. It honestly makes the world feel smaller, no matter what struggles any of us are having, we all need each other.”

“As Rylyn’s mom, I am reading and responding to every single comment. Someone posted, ‘With Bob Marley’s lyrics, Rylyn’s innocence in singing Bob Marley’s song, and The Kiffness being so generous of spirit to bring it to life again….it gives me hope that we are all in this together.’ I love those words and I can make a promise to every single person who has commented or ‘liked’ or donated, you have my word that we will pay it forward. Rylyn will get better and the both of us will pay it forward,” Maureen shared.

Beyond the donations, Scott hopes the song, now available on Spotify and other streaming platforms, will continue to generate passive income for Rylyn. With over 10 million streams on Facebook and over 500,000 views on YouTube, the song’s reach is vast, and its impact is profound.

Scott added, “Only time will tell which treatment will work, but the doctors are doing their best to get him better. That being said, there is newfound hope and the support you are all providing could not have come at a better time.”

This story is a beautiful reminder of the goodness that exists in the world. Through the power of music and community, The Kiffness and countless generous donors have come together to support a young child in need.

As Rylyn continues his brave battle against Lyme Disease, the message remains clear: everything is going to be alright.
