Tatjana Schoenmaker and Joel Smith have officially tied the knot and become South Africa’s own Mr and Mrs Smith!

Cape Town, South Africa (09 November 2023) — Time has flown since Olympian swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker and her love, Joel Smith (who is also rugby first lady Rachel Kolisi’s brother) got engaged in a fairytale moment atop Table Mountain in April.

While both anticipated their big day and joked about finding the fast-forward button so they could get to it sooner, time answered quickly and the pair have officially tied the knot.

Now they’re donning new titles, becoming South Africa’s very own Mr and Mrs Smith.

While South Africans brainstorm new nicknames for ‘Schoenies’ who had a big year in her swimming career—she made title history in a first for our country, and swam her fastest time since the Tokyo Olympics amongst many other podium moments–the mermaid couldn’t be happier to have her new name shared with Joel.

Taking to social media, the newlyweds shared their snaps of joy against the backdrop of the Cape Winelands over the weekend.

Now the worlds of swimming and rugby in South Africa are a little more united, and it’s definitely giving the romance crossover we’re all rooting for.

Meanwhile, in other tying the knot good news, our hearts are very warm from the coolest news of couple Carli and Paul who won the “Love on Ice” competition as featured on Good Things Guy. They are having their dream wedding in icy Antarctica today!
