It’s easier to judge a man by his questions, not his answers… it is the questions you ask that set you on a path to wisdom.
Western Cape, South Africa (07 October 2024) – James Capstick-Dale, a 7-year-old Grade 1 student, delivered an incredible speech at the prestigious University of Cape Town Student Leadership Awards ceremony.
James opened the way for the students who received the outstanding Kerry Capstick-Dale Award, an award that recognises students with an extraordinaire ability to lead, impact and still obtain excellent academic performance in their field of study.
The leadership award aims to recognize and perpetuate student leadership and excellence. The award is also for students who have advanced the statutes of the university ideals and leadership statements beyond academic studies. The awards went to Nicholas Loxton and Langa Twala.
His mom, Tamra Capstick-Dale, helped him write the speech, but his delivery is incredible!
“I sponsor a leadership award/scholarship (two awards are given by our Scholarship Committee annually) at the University of Cape Town. Each year, at the University’s overall student leadership awards evening, I hand out these two awards and the University hands out theirs. The Vice-Chancellor is there, as are some of the top professors, and the student leadership.
It’s one of the most important events in the calendar for the University and its students. The audience is always large, as it was this year, and very responsive.
This year, I gave up my speaking slot to my 7-year old son, James. He delivered an incredible speech on a difficult subject, using four languages.”
