The spirit of Ubuntu is alive and well as the Springboks and countless SA fans, unite in support of their national treasure, Dricus du Plessis.

Perth, Australia (16 August 2024) – South Africa’s heart beats as one as their UFC champion, Dricus du Plessis, prepares to face off against Israel Adesanya in Australia.

The anticipation is electric, fuelled by an outpouring of support from fellow Mzansi supporters, including Springboks rugby stars Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, and RG Snyman as they cheer Dricus ahead of one of the most anticipated UFC matches of the year.

In an interview with ESPN MMA, The UFC middleweight champion shared how he had been looking forward to the fight and prepared well in advance for it even before receiving confirmation that he’d be going head-to-head with Israel who boasts an impressive track record.

A wave of South African pride

The true essence of Ubuntu was captured in a video by Dricus’ lovely girlfriend Vasti Spiller, which shows South Africans and the Springboks gathered in song as they belt out Hardekole while jamming with Afrikaans musician, Ricus Nel. Even outside the country, South Africans have come together and transformed Perth into a sea of green and gold, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of unity and camaraderie.

There is even a joke that Perth has been dubbed “Perthfontein” because South Africans have taken over the city as they back one of their own.

The MMA event, which promises to be an epic showdown, is set to take place at the RAC Arena in Perth and will commence a day after the Springboks tackle the Wallabies on Saturday, 17 August.

Reflecting on the heartwarming display of national unity, Siya Kolisi himself couldn’t deny that it was truly a special day. There is no denying that SA fans will very well support this fight too.

Grateful for the outpouring of support from his country and the Bokke, an excited Dricus shared:

“What an absolute honour and privilege to be a Saffa! Thank you @bokrugby for the support and wishes, let’s go show the world what we know.”
