Binti, the baby rhino, has had quite the medical scare recently, but thanks to an incredible veterinary team, she has finally come home!

Undisclosed Location, South Africa (13 September 2024) — Binti, the baby rhino, isn’t even a year old yet, and already she’s experienced some of life’s toughest cards. Luckily for this little girl, kindness has met her at almost every corner of adversity, including that of her recent medical challenges.

Binti was only rescued in late March this year from a terrible mud swamp. Starving, stuck and alone, her fate would change forever after The Rhino Orphanage stepped in and took the lone rhino into their care and protection.

Since then, Binti has grown both emotionally and physically—from a traumatised tot who wasn’t even a month old at the time of her rescue, to a force of immense joy for her new crash and all the humans who adore her.

However, it hasn’t been all mud baths and milk bottles for the baby. In late August, The Rhino Orphanage shared the concerning news that baby Binti had developed a severe kind of colic.

After being taken to Onderstepoort Veterinary Animal Hospital, Binti received emergency gastric surgery for an impaction in her colon.

Despite her strength in and after her surgery, Binti’s health was still front of mind for The Rhino Orphanage team and the larger community as she recovered at OP indoors and with little movement.

The wait for Binti to come home felt like a lifetime for her family at The Rhino Orphanage, but the day eventually came over the past weekend!

In her latest update, Binti was said to be on bed rest and slowly getting back to feeling herself.

The Rhino Orphanage Team couldn’t have been more thankful to all the vets who made Binti’s homecoming possible.
