Tons of nutritious food was delivered in KZN’s Babanango with the help of some trusty food handlers— Sharks Players!
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (05 September 2023) — On a different kind of tour for the rugby greats, Sharks players Tinotenda Mavesere, Muller du Plessis and Sharks Director of Rugby Neil Powel spent a day delivering nutritious food across rural areas in KZN’s Babanango.
Putting the heart back into the heart of KZN (Zululand), the feeding effort is much more than just a day for the Sharks players and the communities they served. This effort is part of a bigger initiative that sees the Sharks Foundation and Hands of Hope unite with SA Harvest, the national food rescue and hunger relief organisation.
Together, their mission is to deliver essential food items to the underserved rural areas of Zululand, committed to making sure these remote regions are not forgotten in the fight against food insecurity.
Two 8-tonne trucks filled with essential food supplies travelled over 200kms to reach the remote Babanango Game Reserve; delivering an abundance of harvest goodies.
The ‘harvest’ consisted of 3 tons of carrots, sweet potatoes and cabbage, 500 kg of maize meal and 500 kg of mixed tinned beans and pilchards on each truck, set to provide 10,000 meals worth of crucial sustenance to vulnerable families in the region.
Beyond the tons of food, seeing the Sharks players off the field came as an added treat!
