From pet food donations to monetary contributions, the Kloof and Highway SPCA has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community which has made their invaluable work possible.

Kloof, South Africa (17 October 2024) – With a heart filled with thanksgiving, the Kloof and Highway SPCA recently took to social media to thank its selfless supporters for continuously pouring into their cup.

The animal rescue recently acknowledged and thanked everyone who generously donates to their worthy cause which serves as a lifeline to countless animals in need.

“Often those who donate and help the most never ask for a ‘thank you’. We want you to know how much we appreciate your support always,” the organisation said.

The SPCA’s staff and volunteers have also been working tirelessly to spruce up the space and tea garden, creating a haven for animals, a place where they can find love, care, and a second chance at life.

“Our dog walkers have ensured that our goats have an enrichment area, and some volunteers helped do a garden in our Village Green.

“We have also had some wonderful students come and do community service and help us too. Donated plants are sold in our nursery, and your unwanted donated goods keep our charity shops stocked.”

Whether it be through donating unwanted household goods, pet food, volunteering or monetary donations, none of these developments would be possible without the generosity and kindness of animal lovers who don’t think twice about supporting the incredible work of assisting vulnerable animals.

Olympian, Rebecca Meder shared a powerful message with the girls of St Mary’s DSG, reminding them that with determination and trust in God, even the most challenging dreams can be realised.

Kloof, South Africa (02 October 2024) – St Mary’s DSG in Kloof started the fourth school term on a high note and it was all about inspiring their young girls to be resilient, faithful to God and to go after their dreams with unwavering determination.

The senior primary invited Olympic swimmer and South African record holder for 200m individual medley, Rebecca Meder to talk about her illustrious and inspiring journey.

Rebecca spoke about her dream of going to the Olympics when she was just 10 years old and all the challenges she faced along the way.

The 22-year-old swimmer is the African record holder in the 100-metre individual medley and the South African record holder in the long course and short course 200-metre individual medley.

But a lot of grit and faith have gone into shaping the titleholder that Rebecca is today.

During her talk, Rebecca admitted that the journey came with its fair share of adversities and that it took showing up even when things were difficult and holding onto her faith in God, to succeed.

St Mary’s DSG said that Rebecca reminded the girls to hold onto their big dreams and to show up for God so that he can fulfil the promises he has made.

What a meaningful way to encourage young women to chase their aspirations fearlessly and never give up!

SPCA Hero Sarah Van Heerden is tough as nails. So tough, she’s willing to cycle 1600kms and 24,000 metres of climbing for the animals whose tragedies she helps turn into triumphs every day:

spar hero of the week

Western Cape, South Africa (09 April 2024) — Kloof and Highway SPCA Operations Manager Sarah Van Heerden is tough as nails. So tough, she’s able to witness animal cruelty consistently and still continues to fight for a hopeful future for all paws. So tough, she continues to show up day in and day out to change the future of these animals. And so tough, she’s signed up for her own 1600kms cycling mission in the Western Cape, to add a little more fundraising fuel to the fire of that hopeful future her SPCA works so hard to create.

Says Sarah:

“To the dog chained up his entire life, to the mother having her fifth litter, to the dog whose owner cropped his ears with a razor blade—what would YOU do to help? This is what I am willing to do, this is MY pledge!

“I am willing to cycle 1600kms, 24 000 metres of climbing, unsupported, non-stop from Wellington in the Western Cape over 53 passes and back to Wellington to raise money that will go towards fighting these acts of injustice!”

Sarah calls the mission which kickstarted today, her pledge and promise to all the forgotten souls.

On the trek, she hopes to raise funds for an Outreach Clinic, or consultation tables they desperately need in their Clinic, or the vehicle they need for their Inspectorate Department. The list of what the Kloof & Highway SPCA needs is endless, Sarah adds. But one thing is certain—whatever her cycle raises, it will go to changing the lives of animals in need, one way or another.

In flipping good news for the paws and cause, Sarah has already raised over R50,000 with a total goal of R100,000!

You can support Sarah’s Cycle here.
