South Africa’s Speedsoft team made a remarkable debut at their first global tournament in the Netherlands, finishing 10th and celebrating with pride and flair.

Netherlands (22 July 2024) – South Africa, a nation of champions, has once again shown the world what we are made of! This time, it was not on the rugby field or cricket pitch but at the exhilarating and fast-paced Netherlands Speedsoft Tournament.

The South African team, in their first-ever global Speedsoft competition, made a splash by placing 10th at the “NSL Nations Cup” awards.

For those unfamiliar, Speedsoft is a thrilling, high-adrenaline sport that combines elements of paintball and airsoft with the strategic depth of tactical games. Teams face off in fast-paced matches where speed, precision, and teamwork are crucial. Players must navigate through obstacles and take down their opponents with skill and strategy, making for an intense and exciting competition.

Despite being up against 10 other seasoned teams from around the world, the South African squad held their own, impressing everyone with their performance. This was an incredible feat, especially considering the team lacked access to some of the top-notch equipment and specialises fields their competitors had.

The tournament concluded with an unforgettable moment that perfectly captured the team’s spirit and camaraderie. During the final interview, one of the South African players, brimming with pride and joy, appeared on screen clad in nothing but his South African flag swim briefs. This playful nod to rugby star Faf De Klerk, known for his iconic post-match celebrations, brought smiles and laughter all around.

As the team heads back home, they carry with them not just the pride of having represented their nation but the dreams of many aspiring Speedsoft players back in South Africa. They have shown that with heart and dedication, anything is possible, and this is just the beginning.

Here’s to the South African Speedsoft team – may they continue to shine brightly and bring more joy and pride to their nation.
