Irish musician Garron Noone embarked on a hilarious culinary adventure of South Africa’s most iconic snacks. His journey was filled with laughter, confusion, and a whole lot of chewing!

Dublin, Ireland (08 October 2024) – Whether sweet or savoury, there is nothing quite like a lekker snack to feed a random craving, enjoy game day with friends or just see you through a really long day.

Indulging himself in South Africa’s unique treats was Irish musician and comedian Garron Noone, who had us laughing out loud after sharing his experience of our unique flavours, which completely caught his pallet off-guard!

In the funny video, Garron starts off by tasting dry sausage, known to us as droëwors, which he admitted he was most afraid of. Describing it as extremely chewy, Garron said it was a powerful attack of meat on the tongue but was a fan of it nonetheless.

He gave biltong a go next and advised his friends planning a trip to South Africa to bring their strongest chewing muscles.

He washed down the meaty snacks with a Spar-Letta cream soda, whose bright green hue caught him off guard.

“There’s definitely some artificial colouring there. That does not look like a natural green colour. It’s delicious. Tastes like cream soda. Tastes absolutely nothing like it looks. So it’s a bit of a culture shock when you’re looking at it.”

Garron completed his culinary adventure with some sweet goodness, the koeksister – whose pronunciation he hilariously butchered, by the way!

He wasn’t sure what to compare it to, likening it to a gooey fruit or a Danish of sorts.

“I have absolutely no idea what it is. A kind of oily pastry that’s been dipped in a sugary syrup. It’s nice. It’s confusing but it’s got flavour. One of the weirdest things I’ve ever held in my hand and now it’s in my body. I’m a fan of this,” he shared hilariously.

The post’s comments section was riddled with banter and funny commentary from social media users who were amused by the Irishman’s take on the local snacks.

Well, our food may have given him quite the culture shock but at least it was a good one, LOL!

11 Women who collect waste as sanitation workers for a living experienced a wonderful twist of fate recently—winning over R21 million in their local lottery!

Global (02 August, 2023) — Sometimes there are those wonderful twists of fate where wins go where they’re most needed. Such a twist was the case for 11 women who collect waste for a living in India. Together, they teamed up to purchase just one lucky lottery ticket in the hope that it might change their lives, and the odds nodded in their favour!

According to multiple reports, their wages collecting non-biodegradable goods as sanitation workers equates to around $3 a day (roughly R54). Their recent Kerala Lottery win was over R21 million, something that will undoubtedly change their lives as well as those of their families.

The 11 workers scraped together the money to buy the ticket with some lending money to others to give them a chance to be part of fate’s hand. All agreed that they would share whatever they won—something they’ve done before with far lesser wins.

Each of the women has their own story where this twist of fate in their favour seemed to balance the scales of past hardship. For some, the goal is to spend the winnings on the education of their children. For others, the money will help them rebuild their homes, some of which had been impacted due to Kerala’s 2018 floods.

However, their win won’t see them quit their day jobs as part of the Haritha Karma Sena (a green initiative). Per The News Minute, they shared that they want to continue the hard work to keep their municipality the cleanest of the Malappuram region.

One of her latest hits might be ‘Anti-Hero’, but a recent concert moment from Taylor Swift was anything but that!

After seeing a situation with a security guard brewing in the crowd, Swift quickly stood up for her fan.

Philadelphia, USA (15 May, 2023)—Taylor Swift is known for her close relationship with her fans. So, when a situation involving a security guard hassling a fan at a recent concert began to unfold, Taylor had no intention to simply shake it off.

The singer and pop icon was mid-performance when she noticed something wasn’t right in the crowd. As if it were part of a new ‘Bad Blood’ rendition, she took moments between lyrics to get the security guard’s attention, shouting, “She’s fine!” in reference to the fan, followed by, “She wasn’t doing anything,” and “Hey, stop!”.

@mia_rosaliee Not me actually thinking this was an act….😩 #erastour #phillyerastour #taylorswifterastour #taylorswift #badblood #taylorswiftconcert ♬ original sound – Mia 🌈

Though what actually happened between the fan and security guard hasn’t been confirmed, concertgoers shared that the security personnel had been hassling a group of fans, even going as far as to call the handling aggressive.

One millennial claiming to be the fan in question, took to her friend’s TikTok to share her point of view.

Kelly Inglis shared that the guard had been on her and her friends’ cases the entire time over touching the railing, but that he was removed later on while she and her friends got free tickets to the next concert.

She went on to explain that the security situation wasn’t a “big crazy thing”, however as many pointed out, Swift was likely concerned about what it could’ve turned into for her to have addressed it mid-song.

In a follow-up video, the fan further shared how much she and all the other Swifties appreciated Taylor Swift swooping to her defence, only wanting them to just enjoy the show and have fun.

In a tear-jerking marathon moment, Kevin Sinfield carried his former teammate Rob Burrow over the finish line at the marathon held in Rob’s honour. Grab the tissues and watch friendship at its greatest.

Leeds, United Kingdom (15 May, 2023)—Anyone who needed to see friendship in action today should turn to a recent tear-jerking marathon moment between Rugby League star Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow.

The emotional victory over the finish line saw the former teammates end the marathon as they started it—together, with Sinfield carrying Burrow in his arms through the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon’s final stretch on Sunday.

As they reached the end, Sinfield gave his friend a kiss in a moment that reminds us all what it means when we talk about friendship carrying us through times we simply can’t face alone.

Held in Burrow’s honour, the Marathon is a community effort of racers from all walks, chairs and paces of life who come together to raise funds for a host of organisations, including The Rob Burrow Motor Neuron Disease Appeal.

The cause is close to home for both the sports stars who played for England and Leeds Rhinos together. Burrow was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in 2019. Since then, Sinfield has solidified his position as a pillar of strength and an incredible friend.

In fact, Sinfield has raised over £8 million (over R191 million) for MND over the years. Leading up to the marathon, he shared that it is as much about a worthy cause as it is a “celebration of friendship”.

Both superstars are doing their part for the MND community, hoping that the vital funds will fuel institutions and research that might get the world closer to a cure.

Beyond this, they’ve inspired the world with their bond, carrying us all to the reminder that when we lift each other through the hard times, we can soar through the good ones.
