Aden Kleve and a little penguin went viral for a cute moment in May when they saw the African penguin taking a break on a bodyboard.

South Africa (26 June 2024) – The international weather service Accuweather recently shared a video of a bodyboarder in Cape Town who had a surprise guest jump on his board. The penguin, clearly unphased by the guy, stood on the board preening itself.

The video has since gone viral. It was initially shared by Bodyboard South Africa on Instagram and has been reshared on multiple platforms since May, when the footage was first captured.

An African penguin caught a ride on a bodyboard with Aden Kleve, the owner of the bodyboard company that specialises in teaching lessons. Aden was in the middle of a lesson at Witsand Beach when the moment happened. He shared his thoughts on the moment with Storyful.

“I experienced a truly unforgettable moment when an African penguin decided to join me during a bodyboarding lesson,” Kleve said. “He was so friendly, curious, and simply wanted to play on my bodyboard. I’ll never forget this.”

African penguins are inquisitive creatures, and Aden says he has seen many in his 20 years in the water, but this was a first for him!

He kept the board steady for the penguin as it waited out several waves, taking a break from a day of hunting for food.

Take a look at the cute moment below.

Many commenters said that there was likely a shark in the nearby area, but thankfully, both the penguin and Aden were okay.
