Launched over 65 years ago, the world’s longest-running hairdressing competition is celebrating South Africans!

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 December 2022) – The hairdressing community are celebrating three South Africans who have taken the top spots in the longest-running hair competition in the world!

Over 200 days. Yes, hairstylists couldn’t work in South Africa for over two hundred days. Do you remember that?

It feels like a lifetime ago, but it was, in fact, just last year that many South Africans were almost brought to their knees by not being able to work. It was an incredibly difficult time.

But L’Oréal Professionnel is helping to not only rebuild the industry but also celebrate the South African talent that keeps us looking so damn good!

The company promoted the 2022 “Style & Colour Trophy”, the longest-running hair competition in the world, and is now celebrating three South Africans who came out tops!

“Launched in 1954, the “Style & Colour Trophy” brought to you by L’Oréal Professionnel Paris celebrates the creativity and skills of hair artistry. The contest brings incredible excitement and energy to the global hairdressing industry, inspiring hairstylists worldwide to strive to push the limits of what is possible not only in the salon but on the world stage!”

Open to 7 million stylists worldwide, this year’s competition saw 22,500 candidates representing 30 countries participate.

The Global Grand Finale of Style & Colour Trophy 2022 was showcased in a special episode of Run Le Hair Show, the international web series by pros for pros and all hair lovers. The episode was entirely dedicated to the legendary contest, expanding on the show’s primary purpose, which is to shine an even brighter spotlight on some of the most talented hairstylists in the world today.

“The global audience – not only among the finalists’ countries- watched the jury comment on all aspects of skills, artistry, and execution of the global finalists. Eventually, we discovered Massimo Tirimacco became SCTrophy Grand Winner 2021. Kevins Kyle Lambert, Canada, wins the SCTrophy second place award and Erica Keelen, USA, becomes the SCTrophy 3rd place award winner.”

And L’Oréal and South Africa are all celebrating our home-grown winners!

Shalene Sing from Rolf Offermann won the South African leg of the Style & Colour Trophy for 2022, so if you’re in the Durban area and want your hair to be done by THE BEST IN SOUTH AFRICA, then please visit her in the Ballito Junction Shopping Centre.
