Imagine spending the holidays alone, with no visitors and no gifts. For many elderly people residing in old age homes, this is a heartbreaking reality. But, you can help bring them a little cheer this Christmas.

Durban, South Africa (20 October 2024) – Oftentimes, when we talk about spreading the magic and joy of Christmas, it is about children, overlooking that our oldies could also do with some spoils and love too!

Playing their part to make sure our grannies and grandpas in old age homes don’t get left out in the cold, is the Robin Hood Foundation through its annual Bless a Granny & Grandpa campaign.

Every year the campaign fulfils over 2,500 wishes of the elderly people in homes, bringing love, joy and care to those often forgotten.

As the season of giving approaches, the foundation reminds us that giving is not just about donating but more about making a difference.

“For many, the Bless a Granny & Grandpa visits are not just a highlight of their year—it is often the only moment of warmth and connection they experience.

“Imagine, for a moment, receiving just one gift all year, or having only one visitor walk through your door. That is the reality for so many elderly individuals we care for,” the foundation shared.

But this year, you can be the light that brightens their day, by offering a hand that offers not just a present as well as a sense of belonging.

The campaign will bring warmth to 18 old age homes in and around Durban.

“Each visit will be a morning filled with tea, treats, laughter, and, most importantly, the heartfelt gifts that you help provide.”

The Robin Hood Foundation delivered much-needed essentials to grandmothers who tirelessly shoulder the responsibility of caring for their families.

KwaZulu Natal, South Africa (10 September 2024) – In many African families and communities, grandmothers often bear the immense responsibility of caring for and providing for their children, grandchildren, and extended family members, even when faced with limited resources.

Despite their advanced age and personal needs, many of these selfless women are left to serve as the pillars of their households.

Spreading hope and goodness was The Robin Hood Foundation, which came bearing much-needed essentials and goodies for these grandmothers.

The charity’s volunteers recently spent a day in Embo village with Pastor Leonard, who identified 50 deserving gogo’s who received a Robin Hood bag filled with groceries, Hope Jars, toiletries, chips, mugs, linen and blankets.

The gift in kind was met with thanksgiving from the grateful gogo’s who often have many mouths to feed while struggling with their own ailments, with no one to rely on for assistance to get through the hardest and driest of seasons.

“These ladies are the cornerstone of their communities, most of which single-handedly provide and raise their grandchildren, while all done on their state grants or pensions.

“They are proud, gracious, loving, beautiful, kind and deserving souls. We all have a lot to learn from our elders,” Robin Hood Foundation shared.

A small contribution towards party packs can help ensure children far away from home feel loved, valued, and celebrated. The Robin Hood Foundation is making it happen!

Durban KwaZulu-Natal (02 September 2024) – Remember the thrill and magical feeling of receiving a party pack filled with all sorts of goodies and treats that you just couldn’t wait to dig into? Seeking to bring some smiles and childhood fun to the children of Ethembeni Special School is The Robin Hood Foundation and its drive to make a meaningful difference.

Ethembeni School, a state-subsidised school for children with physical and visual impairments, serves as a home away from home for many who travel hundreds of kilometres to receive specialised education.

Every year, Robin Hood holds a Celebration of Life Party at the school. This year, the school is turning 40, and the charity would love to make it even more special for the children.

The annual party is the highlight of the year for these children as they experience the thrill of inflatable activities, the joy of carnival rides, and the excitement of festive entertainment. The day is filled with delicious food, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

“We would love to spoil each child with a party pack. There are 165 children, from grades 0-7, boys and girls. We are looking for 165 items of each. These include chips, popcorn, sweets, lolly pops, biscuits, stationery items, exercise books, soap, face clothes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toys, branded items like pens, rulers, caps, T-shirts etc,” the charity appealed.

If you can sponsor any items towards the party packs, you can drop them off by the 10 September or email Charlotte at info@robinhoodfoundation.co.za.

The Robin Hood Foundation touched the lives of over 70 new mothers so that their bundles of joy have a comfortable and loving start to life.

Durban, South Africa (22 August 2024) – The prospect of becoming a new mom comes with a whirlwind of emotions and a long mental list of preparations to welcome her new bundle of joy into the world in the best and most comfortable way possible.

Lending a helping hand to over 70 new moms who delivered their babies at the RK Khan Hospital in Chatsworth, Durban, were the thoughtful members of the Robin Hood Foundation South Africa.

“We visited RK Khan Hospital and gifted 70+ moms with a baby hamper filled with knitted items, blankets, baby clothes, teddies, toiletries and sanitary ware. Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to this worthy cause and help these new babies and moms get a good start.

“Many of these moms are so grateful as they don’t have anything for their babies to go home in. Thank you to all our Baby Bear UK knitters for your continued support,” the foundation shared online.

Such thoughtful gestures not only help to meet the baby’s immediate needs but also offer emotional support, reminding the new mom that she is not alone and that there are people who care even despite her challenges back at home.

The Robin Hood Foundation’s journey began in May 2005 when Cindy Norcott realised she could make a difference by donating her children’s outgrown clothes to underprivileged families. Inspired by the positive impact of this simple act, Cindy started distributing bags of secondhand clothing and toiletries to new mothers in need at St Mary’s Hospital.

Upon witnessing the deep gratitude and emotional relief in the mothers’ eyes, coupled with heartbreaking stories of babies leaving the hospital wrapped in newspaper, Cindy and her team of volunteers were motivated to expand their efforts, leading to the creation of the Love the Babies project.

With hopes to touch even more little lives, the foundation also appealed to the public to continue to donate their lightly worn 0-12 month baby clothes as they are so needed.

To support the worthy initiative, email info@robinhoodfoundation.co.za or visit https://robinhoodfoundation.co.za
