Siphiso’s

Siphiso was begging on the street, plagued by a cyst that had left him disfigured. But, a lot would change after the Angel Network got involved, including Siphiso’s long-awaited surgical help! Now, he has function of both his eyes once again and a bigger smile to boast:

Sandton, South Africa (10 September 2024) — In 2023, the Angel Network’s Glynne Goldberg Wolman shared the story of Siphiso—a man she initially described as truly kind, warm, special and in need of a break in life. He had spent a lot of time begging on the streets of Sandton and had become disfigured due to a cyst he’d been born with. However, Siphiso’s life was about to start changing.

After Glynne shared his plight and asked her network of angels to get involved, the first order of business was to find out what kind of medical specialist he needed to be put in touch with.

Slowly but surely, the village it would take to help him, began to fall into place. In November of that year, Siphiso got an MRI, an ultrasound and a CT scan. These tests revealed the great news that his cyst was benign, there had been no mutations and that the eye covered by the cyst was functional—a series of important revelations made possible by many, including Lerato Breesh (who made the arrangements happen) and Brenda Stern who helped guide and support his journey.

Surgery awaited!

By May this year, Siphiso’s cyst had mostly been removed, with Hazel Jacobson making sure that he had gotten to the hospital for his surgery, safe and sound. The rest of the cyst would be successfully removed at a later stage; giving Siphiso his face back at last.

In a recent update earlier this month, Glynne shared the news that the Angel Network community had long been waiting for: Siphiso was clear of his cyst and able to use both of his eyes once again in what has been a life-changing chapter.

“It is true that it takes a village to do most things and this situation is no different. It took my son David to get us to help Siphiso initially [and] all our incredibly kind and generous members to donate to his cause,” reflects Glynne.

However, Siphiso’s happy ending is still only halfway there and can only truly be realised once he is off the streets.

Per Glynne, Siphiso has gone into rehab to begin another chapter and get clean. Following this part of his journey, the Angels hope to help him find a job to kickstart his new life.
