Pop star Demi Lovato is currently in Kenya with a Social Enterprise to meet with and empower woman and children.

Demi Lovato is an ambassador for  ME to WE, a Social Enterprise that sources goods from locals, donating profits to the WE Charity division.

The Enterprise also arranges volunteer trips for anyone who qualifies. Demi supports the organisation by making donations, she recently donated $80 000.00, part of which she raised by selling a custom designed “Rafiki” bracelet to benefit an empowerment centre in Kenya.

“Named after the Swahili word for friend, this rafiki chain is a colourful way to connect with Demi’s cause to help women find their voice. Each Limited Edition Demi Lovato Rafiki Friend Chain supports Demi’s goal in funding the building of a Women’s Empowerment Center in Kenya.”

The photographer that took the above photo explained why Demi was on the trip

“So, the reason I’m in Kenya is to capture moments with Demi Lovato. Surprise! Demi has been working tirelessly to empower mamas in Kenya”

“Here’s a tender moment of the mamas thanking Demi for everything she’s done. I can’t wait to share more with you and @wemovement.”

Demi sells the Rafiki jewellery made by local Kenyan mothers at her concerts and shows. Demi also visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to meet the orphaned elephants. ME to WE took Demi and friends to visit the Massai, the group all wore the Massai Shuka.

This wasn’t Demi’s first trip to Kenya. Last time she visited the country with ME to WE, she helped build a school and even celebrated her 21st birthday at a school sharing a big cake with all the students and was gifted a goat.

Demi vowed that in 2017 she would be stepping out of the spotlight and focusing more on charity work and if this is how she has started the year we cannot wait to see all the good things she has in store for the world.
