We’re not sure Disney or James Cameron had anything to do with it… and it didn’t last very long, but we totally had it first, right?

Disney have just released a sneak peak into their new “Pandora – The World of Avatar” opening in 2017 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom but South Africa can boast that we had it first.

Okay, not really.

But it’s really funny to look back at AVASTAR the nightclub… which closed down in 2012 as suddenly as it opened in Rivonia, South Africa.

We’re not sure if you recall but The Hoff (David Hasselhoff) flew into the country to host the entire opening and it featured all the cheesy bits you can think of. Flame throwers, laser light display shows, confetti machines and optic fiber chandeliers mixed with half naked Avatar paintings and the awesome trick of Avastar cocktails.

You’ll understand why it’s so fantastic after you watch the really cringe-worthy video below:

Okay… enough of that already. We really didn’t have it first but we’re thankful that things on the internet can rarely be erased and we’ll have this gem of a memory for many years to come.

The real AVATAR theme park will open next year.

Walt Disney World has confirmed its latest attraction, Pandora, The World of Avatar… will open in summer 2017 (winter South Africa) and has released new images and video that offer a sneak peak at what visitors can expect.

The new addition to the Florida theme park’s Animal Kingdom was announced in 2011 and construction began in 2014. Once complete, guests will be able to walk and take a boat ride through a recreation of the lush alien land that appeared in James Cameron’s film, Avatar.

Disney sure does a better job… watch the sneak peak below:
