Dirty Dog Hot Dog

Social on Main has a hot dog on their menu that raises money for the Ark Animal Shelter. Every “Dirty Dog” purchased, a donation is made to the shelter.

Social on Main is an after work hot spot in Bryanston Johannesburg, it has a massive list of specialty drinks and delicious gourmet snacks and meals to choose from.

One of the menu’s staples is the “Dirty Dog”, it’s a hot dog filled with deliciousness. The Dirty Dog is a Char-grilled Frankfurter with Crispy Onions, Pulled Pork, Slaw, Mustard Mayo and Fries. Is your mouth watering? To make this an even better deal Social on Main teamed up with the Ark Animal Shelter and donates R 3.00 from each Dirty Dog sold to the shelter.

Ark Animal Shelter is a rehabilitating and re-homing shelter with a focus on the care of pregnant dogs and puppies. The shelter re-homed 100 dogs in its first 100 days, a task that has never been accomplished in animal welfare before.

“Our shelter facilities are built for small breed dogs and puppies. We do not take in any adult dogs, only puppies under 3 months old and pregnant moms.”

The shelter was first started in 2011 by Tracy Otto and is run with the help of her two daughters. The shelter houses all its animals in a humane manner and refuses to put the animals in a concrete slab. The kennels are fenced around grass and tree’s and filled with toys for the puppies.

“Thanks to Tracy’s friendly, easygoing and fun loving attitude, Ark is very popular with volunteers and community service students who arrive to help over weekends and during the school holidays. Ark also provides holiday programs for children as well as adults who want to learn more about dogs and their wellbeing.”

Money raised by the sale of the Dirty Dogs is used towards feeding and vaccinating puppies as well as caring for the pregnant dogs. The shelter offers a number of service for dog and cat owners as well, they do spays and neutering, vaccinations as well as micro-chipping.
