‘Flying Boy’ and tiny dancer Sizolwethu Ngidi has become a world champion after he blew the competition off the dance floor at the World Freestyle Championships!
Global (05 July 2024) — Talk about a season of dancing delights! Following several achievements South Africa’s enjoyed on dance floors across the globe recently, tiny dancer Sizolwethu Ngidi, known affectionately as ‘Flying Boy’, has recently become a world champion, giving South Africa all the reasons to get up and groove with joy!
Hailing from Gamalakhe township in Port Shepstone, ‘Flying Boy’ let the wings of his dreams carry him from success to success. It didn’t come without incredible amounts of hard work for any dancer, let alone one who is still in primary school. Or without many obstacles to overturn; obstacles even seasoned dancers have lost their footing over. In fact, it was a starlit path with clear or easy access points. But, against the odds that come with the territory of the dancer’s world and all the privileges that put others ahead of the game, Sizolwethu made his way to England, not only to compete but to win.
Putting the fly in ‘flying our flag high’, our Flying Boy became the World Champion of the U12 Freestyle category, and the Vice World Champion for Slowdance in his age category.
From mall talent searches to the global stage, the talented dancer has come a long and beautiful way to meet his dreams. As photographer Vee Ramsayi shared in reflecting on Sizolwethu’s appearance at a South Coast mall talent search, “I knew the old saying, ‘dynamite comes in small packages’ is so true.”
His family and father, Dumisani, couldn’t be prouder of what he has achieved. Dumisani shared great thanks to everyone who supported the Flying Boy’s dreams, and to Junior Dilape for helping train Sizolwethu, sharing:
“Today, I mean right now I am getting ready to meet the World Champion and it’s all thanks to you.”
We may not know what the future has in store for this champion just yet, but if we had to place our bets, we’d say it’s one filled with sparkling stage lights, roaring applause and more young dancers believing in their wildest dreams because of people like Sizolwethu.
