Dean Elgar

Dean Elgar is now the leading runs scorer in Test cricket for 2017.

While the Proteas lost the third test to England at the Oval in London, the good news is that they’re expected to have their courageous opener Dean Elgar in their ranks for the fourth and final test at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting on Friday.

Elgar, who scored a fighting century in a losing cause during the 3rd test to become the first South African in the series to reach triple figures, withstood a number of blows to his hands during his innings of 136.

There were concerns that the man who skippered the Proteas in the opening test at Lords due to the absence of Faf du Plessis would miss out on the Manchester match, but he rubbished those rumours immediately after the Oval test, saying that he would play no matter how battered his body was.

He also dismissed the idea of undergoing an X-Ray, saying the process would simply be a “waste of money.
