Caster Semenya fought her way to win gold in the women’s 800m final at the IAAF World Championship in London.
Caster Semenya won her third world title in the 800 meters, using her finishing kick to sweep past the competition in the finishing straight and win with ease over Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi.
Semenya won with a season-leading 1 minute, 55.16 seconds. The South African beat Niyonsaba by .76 seconds. Wilson finished in 1:56.65.
The 26-year-old won gold in the women’s 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships as well as silver medals at the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
In April 2016, Semenya was the first person to win all three of the 400m, 800m, and 1500m titles at the South African National Championships.
She set world-leading records of 50.74 and 1:58.45 in the first two events, and a 4:10.93 in the 1500m.
As a result, Team South Africa will finish the IAAF campaign with three gold, one silver and two bronze.
