Little Kenzie Knott has taken to the trails once again to tackle the 13 Peaks Challenge, all to raise funds for orphaned rhinos:

spar hero of the week

Cape Town, South Africa (26 June 2024) — Little Mackenzie ‘Kenzie’ Knott might only be 11 years old, but she already knows a thing or two about walking the walk when it comes to making change.

In case you missed our coverage last year, Kenzie did an incredible thing when she decided to tackle the 13 Peaks Challenge (her third time at that) all for the orphaned baby rhinos of Rhino Connect.

Alongside her trusty plush rhino Hazel June and her dad Gareth, not only did Kenzie inspire countless adults to challenge themselves to greater heights in their own difference-making endeavours, she also surpassed her initial goal of R13000, meaning a lot of essential milk for the rhinos!

This year, Kenzie has set to task once again as an ambassador of Fit 4 Rhinos (a fundraiser-meets-fitness initiative) and is already halfway through her 13 Peaks!

“My passion has always been the mountains and animals,” says Kenzie. “And just like last year, I intend to make a difference by attempting my 4th 13 Peaks Challenge to raise R15 000 for the Rhino Orphans as part of the #rememberthemilk campaign.”

“Every drop counts and the more people know about my challenge, the better the chances of me reaching my target. (Baby Rhinos drink  A LOT of milk, up to 21 litres a day)”, she adds.

Says Liezl Schoeman, founder of the Fit 4 Rhinos initiative:

“[Kenzie] is an absolute superstar. Her determination for our cause is unwavering. I had the privilege of joining her last year for the Little Lions Head and Suther Peaks. To see that tiny body scrambling fearless up and down those mountains is just heartwarming.”

The Fit4 Rhinos community couldn’t be prouder of the determined champion of mountains and rhino welfare, and look forward to more people supporting the important cause.

Their Remember The Milk Campaign is aimed explicitly at supporting orphaned rhino babies of Rhino Connect, who look after around 8000 rhinos (and several rhino babies) from private farm owners and reserves in South Africa. The effort surrounding milk hopes to raise the necessary funds to procure milk and milk products so that the baby rhinos have the best shot at growing big and strong!

As for the milk purchased from the fundraiser, it is fat-free/skimmed milk because the lipid and sugar content is similar to that of real rhino milk, as F4R explains. As for getting the milk to the various Rhino Connect facilities safely, a GivenGain campaign has been created.

For those who can’t contribute to the initiative, another way to get involved is to dedicate a race or event to the Fit 4 Rhinos initiative! You can get involved by contacting Liezl via fit4rhinos@gmail.com.
