When Carol heard a puppy’s cry from outside as harsh rain poured down, she found herself at the intersection of heroic actions (and even faced arrest at one point). Thanks to her bravery, she saved 3 dogs from terrible circumstances:

spar hero of the week

Venda, South Africa (18 March 2024)—When Dzivhuluwani Mupeiwa (known affectionately as Carol) recently went home for a funeral, she had little idea that she would return to work as a hero.

Proudly sharing her story, Joan Bond (whom Carol works for as a domestic helper) recounts that Carol’s heroism began when she heard a cry while taking a shower.

The sound was that of a puppy crying. The harsh rain was pouring down, so Carol went to investigate why the tiny animal was outside causing such havoc.

Upon stepping out, Carol saw two tiny puppies that couldn’t have been older than a few weeks. They were soaking wet from the rain and shivering from the cold.

Carol found a box, put the puppies inside it and found their mother (all of whom were at her next-door neighbour’s place), deciding that they would all be much better inside with her.

“She took them all to her place and gave them a blanket to keep warm. The mother dog was very skinny, proving she was hardly fed,” Joan shares.

The following morning, she returned the dogs and exchanged a few stern words with her neighbour for leaving the dogs outside and for the mother being seemingly underfed.

To her dismay, the neighbour reportedly couldn’t have been less interested in their plight, and proceeded to put out his cigarette on one of the puppy’s backs.

“This was too much for Carol, so she phoned her sister who has a car, to take her to the SPCA with the dogs. Her sister arrived and they took the mom and pups to the SPCA in Louis Trichard,” Joan adds.

Despite the trip being two hours, the women were determined to get the dogs to a better situation. The SPCA Louis Trichardt welcomed them with immense kindness and even paid for the fuel.

But back home, trouble was brewing as Carol’s neighbour opted to call the police claiming Carol had stolen his property.

“She arrived home to 3 police vans. The police told her they had come to arrest her for taking his property.”

Carol displayed incredible bravery and told them they could arrest her but only after calling the SPCA. After explaining the situation, it was determined that Carol was no thief. But Carol wanted more than to be freed of accusations—she wanted justice for the animals.

Determined to have the police listen to the SPCA, Carol took the keys out of one of the vans so that one of the three police vehicles remained present while the SPCA staff travelled to Carol’s home.

“The SPCA arrived 3 hours later and saw what a terrible condition the poor dogs lived in. They gave a warning to the neighbour and said he can never own a dog again. Of course, Carol was not arrested after all,” Joan shares with pride.

Thanks to Carol’s fearlessness and bravery, three dogs are alive in another incredible story where bravery and going above and beyond changed lives.
