Local Artist Duncan Skuva met a young boy at Gateway Mall and decided to feed his whole family in a random act of kindness.
Umhlanga, South Africa (23 January 2017) – Artist and rapper Duncan Skuva of Sphethu/Afrotainment was recently at Gateway shopping mall with a friend when they met a young boy begging for spare change.
“Together we gave Sphelele Mditshwa a few coins as that was all the cash we had at the time (It was about R20)”
Duncan then made his way to his car to leave the mall, only to have a nagging feeling, something told him to stop.
“As I was opening the door something said turn around… and there he was kneeling on the ground and it seemed like he was praying. My heart just sank. So I put my goods in the car and walked back to the young boy”
Mditshwa was, in fact, praying, feeling so grateful for the help and good deed. The rapper felt compelled to make even more of a difference in the boy’s life and decided to approach him to find out more about his life.
Skuva asked the boy how he came to be begging, he answered that he comes from a very poor family and most days they have no food so he begs to feed his mother and grandparents.
Duncan then took the boy to a local Spar and proceeded to fill a trolley with all the bare necessities every household needs, like oil, rice, potatoes, and so much more!
“I looked at him and his face was filled with joy, repeatedly saying :”Ngiyabonga malume” (thank you uncle)”
They drove the boy back to his home in a local informal settlement, and the boy ran off to fetch his mother.
“His mother burst into tears of joy and was speechless. She didn’t even have to say anything, I could see and feel her gratitude.”
“I was so happy to have made such an impact towards this family.”
Skuva is determined to make a difference in this family’s life and is asking anyone who can help to please reach out. He is asking for donations of blankets, clothing and long storage foods.
His moral of the story: Umuntu umuntu ngabantu.
“I am where I am because of the support I get from my fans. Help other people with the little that you have, it could be worth more than you could ever imagine to them. There is no such thing as a Lone Ranger.”
