In a thoughtful Christmas story, a trio of elderly best friends show us that the answer to some of life’s existential crises is a little creative joy:

Global (12 November 2023) — While many Christmas adverts tend to hone in on concepts that relate to families and children, Amazon’s ‘Joy Ride’ festive feature gave a trio of golden girls their tale of bliss, and it’s tastefully thoughtful.

In the one-minuter, three elderly gal pals sit on a bench, longingly looking out at the children sledging down slopes of snow. The sympathy (and for some, empathy) is very real in those initial seconds as we are forced to face the age-old uncomfortable fact that some of our favourite experiences will not be possible forever.

Or, will they? (Cue an upbeat Christmas drumroll).

As one of our ladies gets a twinkle in her eye, the short story transforms from existential crisis to thoughtful joy. Deciding that where there’s a will there’s a way, our protagonist orders sled-fitting cushions so that she and the girls can go on a joyride just like the old days.

As the three become young girls again and cruise down the slope, their happiness flows from screens to hearts and we’re left with the message that as cliche as it may be, thoughtfulness counts a lot (and can evidently quell existential woes).
