If you are keen on more Santa Shoeboxes this year, the project has just opened the team pledges, allowing 20 or more box pledges at a time.

South Africa (11 August 2024) – Every year, South Africans get the opportunity to gift a box of goodies to a child in need; that child then gets to open the box during the festive season. This is done each year, thanks to Santa Shoebox Project. They have officially opened the team pledges option.

The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 18 years, donors have reached 1,226,756 children. Now with the 19th year running, that number will rise once again.

Team pledges have opened officially and it gives larger groups, schools and companies the chance to pledge bigger numbers.

Many groups get together to make up 20 or more boxes each year. This is done to make a more significant impact and to bring down the cost of the boxes. The Santa Shoebox team have a process that helps people who wish to pledge more boxes.

“We’re here to link your pledge of 20 Shoeboxes or more to underprivileged children attending schools and care facilities in and around your own community.

A Team Pledge is a great way to build team spirit and have some fun with colleagues, family or friends. It is of course also an easy way to give life-changing gifts of essentials and treats to vulnerable children in need, setting them up for the school year ahead.”

You can sign up for team pledges via email here. Individual pledges will be open on in September 2024.

All of the following items are required in each box:

  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Bar of soap
  • Washcloth
  • An outfit or item of clothing
  • Educational supplies
  • Sweets
  • A toy
