SPCA Assisi Inspector Luyanda made an elderly couple’s day after he came across their dog’s worn-out kennel in need of some TLC. Despite the dog’s owners not being able to afford a new kennel, Luyanda turned to his inner tinker and gave the kennel a clever makeover!

Humansdorp, South Africa (16 July 2024) — In news of a little kindness making a big impact, SPCA Assisi Inspector Luyanda recently went above and beyond the call of duty to transform a dog’s worn-out kennel into a far better and cosier space.

Inspector Luyanda had come across an elderly couple and their beloved pooch’s makeshift kennel and immediately knew something had to be done. With the couple unable to afford a replacement for the original kennel, Luyanda decided to step up and lend a hand—calling on his inner tinker and a little help from his friends at the SPCA all out of his own pocket of kindness.

He brought the original worn-out kennel in and began devising ways to use the few means and materials available to make something better, more sturdy, and cosy for the dog.

With a few important adjustments (like insulating the kennel, adding in some mattress material and bedding for comfort as well as waterproofing the outside) the kennel was soon transformed, much to the delight of the elderly couple and of course, the pooch who now has a better place to sleep.

“Their appreciation was heartwarming,” shared the SPCA Assisi.

“It was a poignant reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in someone’s life. We’re so proud of our team for going above and beyond to help those in need!”

Indeed, sometimes kindness is uncomplicated and as simple as saying “I’ll make a plan”, which is exactly what this SPCA Inspector did.

Meanwhile, in more animal hero stories, Andre Barnard also went out of his way to help those who couldn’t help themselves recently, taking brave steps to rescue little lives that you can read all about here.
