Menu for the Homeless

A restaurant in Bloemfontein has created a special menu for the homeless so that people can buy meals for those in need in advance!

Bloemfontein, South Africa (11 March 2024) — By now, you’ve probably seen the viral photo of a restaurant’s sign that reads ‘If you are hungry and have no money, these meals have been paid for in advance’.

Here’s a look in case you missed it:

Why? Because oftentimes, the few who are dishonest hardly compare to the many who are grateful.

Joining this movement is a restaurant in Bloemfontein. In an effort to ‘feed the world one step at a time’, the Famous Brew&Still restaurant has decided to create a menu for the Homeless; where regular patrons can purchase a meal on behalf of someone in need.

The restaurant explains the process: “Your slip will be placed on our pin board, and each Saturday, all the meals bought will be prepared and dropped off at these individuals.”

On the menu are fruits of the week for just R3, chicken stew and rice, pap and chicken livers and sandwiches—all filling, and all much cheaper than any menu prices many South Africans have seen for a long time so that more people can be fed.

And if you thought people wouldn’t buy into something like this—think again.

After just starting the Homeless Menu, the brewery happily to report that they had already had 114 meals placed and paid for by their first Saturday delivery.

Talk about an initiative that can fill your heart as much as someone else’s tummy!
