Cape Town Fashion Week is back and ready to dazzle. After two years away, Africa’s iconic showcase is spotlighting more sustainable fashion solutions set to better our continent!
Cape Town, South Africa (23 March 2023) — The iconic Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW) has made its slow return to the public in the best way.
The last local display of Africa’s fashion excellence took place back in 2020. Thereafter, the pandemic would put the show on hold for reasons we all remember too well. However, CTFW is back and ready to inspire a new generation of proudly African designers with the kind of slowness the world sorely needs — slower fashion.
Spearheading the Conscious African Fashion Movement
The 2023 run of CTFW is bringing sustainable matters into the spotlight. With an overarching theme of Fashion, Art & Design, budding designers and enthusiasts will have the chance to appreciate and learn from the very best (and most conscious) African designers and innovators.
Run by Africa Fashion International, CTFW is something of an African love letter to our future in fashion. AFI’s story began back in 2007 with Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe — a leader connecting African flair, designs and imaginings with the world. Over 15 years of African creativity later, multiple minds previously overlooked by the fashion industry are now at its forefront.
CTFW will see a wealth of South African and African designers dazzling the stage, including:
- Otsile Sefolo (South Africa)
- Masa Mara (Rwanda)
- House of Nala (South Africa)
- IMPRINT South Africa
- Alia Bare (Nigeria)
- LaaniRaani (South Africa)
- Kat Van Duinen (South Africa)
- Ituen Basi (Nigeria)
- Taibo Bacar (Mozambique)
- Urban Zulu (South Africa)
CTFW will kick things up an extra notch by hosting a three-day expo, and master classes. These masterclasses are set to nurture a sustainable mindset and provide a look into the “conscious and inclusive fashion movement in Africa”, per AFI.
“Learn from experts in the industry as they discuss topics such as ethics, diversity, sustainability, global citizenship, and other topics that are important to the future of African fashion. With this knowledge, you will gain crucial insights into how to make lasting changes for a more ethical and sustainable global fashion landscape.”—AFI
