The fans have spoken once again, only this time in James Blunt’s favour – He aimed to reach number one on the charts, and he failed! But boy, did he celebrate the moment!

Global (22 October 2024)James Blunt had his very own jump-on-the-sofa moment this week in celebration of his album not hitting number one on the charts. You might be thinking, that doesn’t sound right, and you would be right! James was celebrating the failure because now he doesn’t need to legally change his name.

He has started a challenge to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ back on top of the charts, and if it hit #1, he would legally change his name to whatever the most popular suggestion is. The suggestion was to change his name to Blunty McBluntface.

The album, which includes fan favourites like ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Goodbye My Lover’, and ‘High’, was reproduced in honour of the anniversary. The goal is to get it to number one by the end of October.

Every artist hopes to have their album reach number one but in James’ case, he was absolutely relieved when the news broke that his album had failed to hit the mark.

Take a look at his hilarious reaction below:

It’s official: James Blunt fans have decided on his new name, but they still need to make his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ reach number one on the charts for him to actually change his legal name.

Global (14 October 2024) – If you missed it, James Blunt set a challenge for his fans to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, to the top of the charts. As a reward for his efforts, he legally changed his name to whatever the masses voted for.

The album, which has fan favourites like ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Goodbye My Lover’ and ‘High’, has been reproduced in honour of the anniversary, and the goal is to get it to number one by the end of October.

Naturally, it can be found on all major streaming services, so if you are keen to get in on the fun – start listening right this moment, and very soon, James won’t be James anymore!

It really is clever marketing! So then… What is the new name?

Well, the votes are in, and the name everyone has chosen is “Blunty McBluntface”.

The people have spoken! While we agree that the imagination for this one was slightly lacking (we are still team James Beige), it’s so wholesome seeing James engage with his fans in such a funny manner. The world needs more public figures who are not scared to have a bit of fun on social media.

James Blunt has started a challenge for the world and in return, he will legally change his name – the funny musician has been making us all laugh out loud with his antics surrounding this challenge.

Global (09 October 2024)James Blunt has a brilliantly dry sense of humour and while he is incredibly talented in the music department, he also has wit and constantly leaves people giggling.

He has started a challenge to get his album ‘Back to Bedlam’ back on top of the charts and if it hits #1, he will legally change his name to whatever the most popular suggestion is.

“Wanna ruin my life? If the 20th Anniversary Edition of my album “Back To Bedlam” re-enters the charts at number 1, I will legally change my name – to whatever you guys decide. Comment on this post below with suggestions for my name change, or like someone else’s comment to vote. The comment with the most likes on this post across my social media profiles on 11th October – when the album is released – wins. And then the race to number 1 begins!”

There have been some interesting names suggested, but personally, it’s James Beige for us. That one earned a hearty chuckle. Another goodie was Yerb Eautiful. James even put up a recommendation of his own… “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star Four Chord Song Machiney?”

Since sharing the challenge, he has been having fun on social media, sharing his famed dry humour in all sorts of funny ways.

So what do you reckon? Are you in for a “Back to Bedlam” reboot? What name are you loving? Do you think James has anything to worry about?

In a fun twist, James Blunt was recently in South Africa for his tour, and he loved his time in Cape Town!

James Blunt’s ‘The Girl That Never Was’ is a hauntingly beautiful tribute to the pain of losing a child too soon, resonating with deep emotion and love’s enduring strength.

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 October 2023)James Blunt, known for his poignant and emotionally charged music, has once again struck a chord with his latest song, “The Girl That Never Was”, but this time it’s personal.

This song, a tragic yet comforting track from his album ‘Who We Used To Be,’ has left me, and I’m sure will leave many others, with a profound sense of sorrow and reflection.

A couple of years ago, my dear friend Gillian Benson, whom I’ve known since the age of five, welcomed her daughter, Addison, into the world. Gilly is not just a friend; she’s my best friend’s sister, making her my best friend and sister too. And that made Addy my niece by heart, a title I cherish dearly. However, Addy’s time with us was heartbreakingly brief, spanning only a few precious days. We all held onto hope when we visited the hospital, hope that she would defy the odds and thrive. But hope alone couldn’t change the course of destiny, and we found ourselves saying goodbye to a tiny, fragile life and we were all left with an immense sense of loss.

Her coffin was so, so small.

My YouTube often serves me the best music. The stuff that makes me smile, makes me cry, makes me believe, makes me think and makes me hurt. This one hurt.

You see, “The Girl That Never Was” is not just a song; it’s an emotional journey through the pain of losing a child far too soon. When I stumbled upon this song yesterday, it struck me like an arrow to the heart. A broken heart. I sobbed then, and I find myself shedding tears as I pen down these words.

The song’s lyrics encapsulate the sorrow and longing that come with such a tragic loss. And it reminded me of our blended modern family’s loss.

But it’s also a powerful reminder that countless mothers, fathers, and families have endured the same heartache. You are not alone. In the face of this shared pain, we must remember that love endures. Just as my Gilly and James himself honour the memory of their beloved little ones with love, we too, must ensure that the love we hold for those we have lost never fades away.

“Somewhere, she’s probably dancing with her blonde hair, falling like ribbons on her shoulders. Just like we always saw bright eyes, spinning in circles in the sunlight.”

We often shy away from discussing such painful topics, but James Blunt’s “The Girl That Never Was” is a brave and beautiful reminder of the importance of acknowledging and honouring the grief that comes with the loss of a child. And since it was released in a significant month – October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month- this is perhaps also a good reminder to be having these conversations with our friends and family who may be dealing with this heartache.

When I told Gilly about the song and she listened to it, she said, “Child loss is not an event. It is an indescribable journey of survival. And this is true. Every parent who has lost a child suffers for the rest of their lives and simply cannot forget that loss. All we seek is validation and respect for the grief we endure and the manner in which we do this. It aids our journey.”

A reminder to keep the flame of love alive, to hold our moms and dads who are going through that journey with kindness and to ensure that the little ones we hold in our hearts are never forgotten.

‘Cause the world is standing waiting for someone to come and change it… Yeah, be the young, the brave, the powerful cause we need a soul to save us, need someone to be the greatest!

Global (17 April 2020) – Multi-Grammy nominated and multi-platinum British singer/songwriter James Blunt has shared a moving video for his new single “The Greatest.”

James Blunt, is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. After retiring from the military, he rose to fame in 2004 with the release of his debut album Back to Bedlam, achieving worldwide fame with the singles “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover”.

Blunt’s first album has sold over 11 million copies worldwide, topping the UK Albums Chart and peaking at number two in the US. “You’re Beautiful” was number one in the UK, the US and a dozen other countries. Back to Bedlam was the best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK, and is one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Blunt has since sold over 20 million records worldwide. Lyrics:

Too much to say
Too much to lose
I get frustrated thinking ’bout the world I brought you to
It’s a battle of time
That I have with you
But don’t decide the how, the when or if we’ll make it through
I feel that you deserve a chance to know the truth and to be better than
The ones who came before you only to let pride and money weaken them
So be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause the world is standing waiting for someone to come and change it
Yeah, be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause we need a soul to save us
Need someone to be the greatest
So many words
Veiling the truth
The others turning and it’s time for us to choose
And people will try
To take you down too
But if I was a betting man, I’d put all my money on you
I know that I have nothing left to give to you to make you better than
The man I failed to be, the friends and father that I know I should have been
So be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause the world is standing waiting for someone to come and change it
Yeah, be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause we need a soul to save us
Need someone to be the greatest
Nobody knows what to say (oh no)
Nobody shows you the way (oh no)
Sometimes it’s hard to see
Who you’re gonna be
So be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause the world is standing waiting for someone to come and change it
Be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause we need a soul to save us
Need someone to be the greatest
Be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause the world is standing waiting for someone to come and change it
Be the young, the brave, the powerful
‘Cause we need a soul to save us
Need someone to be the greatest love

This is the most heartbreaking yet somehow beautiful thing you will see today. Get the tissues ready.

Global (19 January 2020)James Blunt has released one of the most heartbreaking music videos of his career for his new song ‘Monsters’, one of the highlights from his acclaimed UK Top 3 album ‘Once Upon A Mind’ – out now on Atlantic Records.

Blunt’s “Monsters” is a song in which the singer is addressing his father. And it is the most heartbreaking thing you will see today. The simple, minimal and stirring track is one of the most personal songs Blunt has ever written, and the stark, emotive video was conceived by Blunt personally. It features the artist vulnerably singing the song to his Dad for the first time.

“Monsters is a eulogy to my father – except he’s still alive and kicking. But he’s not been well – his kidneys are functioning at just 11%. And with that realisation, I needed to tell him that, to me, he’s more than just a father. He’s my friend too, and that I love him.”

Blunt’s father, Charles Blount, has Stage 4 Chronic Kidney disease, so he asked if he’d like to be in the video with him.

Watch the poignant music video below.

Lyrics

Oh, before they turn off all the lights
I won’t read you your wrongs or your rights
The time has gone
I’ll tell you goodnight, close the door
Tell you I love you once more
The time has gone
So here it is
I’m not your son, you’re not my father
We’re just two grown men saying goodbye
No need to forgive, no need to forget
I know your mistakes and you know mine
And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud
So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?
Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn
To chase the monsters away
Oh, well I’ll read a story to you
Only difference is this one is true
The time has gone
I folded your clothes on the chair
I hope you sleep well, don’t be scared
The time has gone
So here it is
I’m not your son, you’re not my father
We’re just two grown men saying goodbye
No need to forgive, no need to forget
I know your mistakes and you know mine
And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud
So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?
Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn
To chase the monsters away
Sleep a lifetime
Yes, and breathe a last word
You can feel my hand on your own
I will be the last one, so I’ll leave a light on
Let there be no darkness in your heart
But I’m not your son, you’re not my father
We’re just two grown men saying goodbye
No need to forgive, no need to forget
I know your mistakes and you know mine
And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud
So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?
Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn
To chase the monsters away
