Ambulances get the sick and injured to hospitals across South Africa; Kids Flight is an air ambulance that helps children in the poorest communities!
South Africa (10 October 2024) – Medical aviation is the fastest way to get injured and sick people to the hospital in the quickest way possible. Air ambulances can be very expensive, but they are lifesaving in the worst cases. Kids Flight is a South African NPC and PBO that caters to children who cannot afford this service.
Many children are at the mercy of long waiting times, dilapidated road infrastructure, vast distances and the inaccessibility to specialist medical care. Kids Flight makes sure these children have access to an air ambulance.
“Simply put, the majority of South African children live in poor households and in rural settlements. These two factors contribute to limited access to both emergency care and ongoing specialist care, which in turn contributes to higher death rates in children.”
The ICU-equipped helicopter, staffed with world-class aeromedical teams and equipped and designed with child-specific resources, has the real capability of getting the right people and resources to the right little patient at the right time. The charitable service is operated by Rocket Hems and Henley Air.
“The main object of the Company is to provide and/or facilitate Helicopter Emergency Flights to children up to the age of 12 years. The Helicopter Emergency Flights will be provided in the case of time-critical conditions warranting, based on industry-standard emergency flight criteria, the activation of an appropriately equipped, staffed and registered emergency helicopter to provide life-saving medical care and stabilisation as well as the air transport of the relevant child to an appropriate hospital. Inter-hospital transfers of children meeting the requirements will also be included.”
The helicopter is beautifully covered in children’s drawings. It highlights just who this fantastic service is catered to.
