Finding inspiration in everyday life, the drawing power of social media and even the simple joy of ice cream, Christy Strever’s photography will leave you pondering, moved or just smiling silly!
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 September 2024) – Colourful, creative and out-of-this-world photography is what makes Christy Strever come alive!
Christy, a familiar face to Good Things Guy and no stranger to the viral social media streets has a way of making an impression, evoking emotion and even sometimes causing a stir through her dynamic, well-thought-out images.
She finds inspiration just about anywhere. Even our very own Brent Lindeque has been her precious muse in front of the lens!
Christy shared her top six images and the amazing and sometimes quirky inspirations behind them.
Eat, Sleep, Dream Social Media
This captivating image goes down as Christy’s ultimate favourite! Captured in a time where she observed just how glued (or even addicted) to social media people have become, it speaks volumes to the heartbeat of the digital age.
Not all that glitters is gold.
Former Survivor SA contestant Nicole Capper got dirty for this shoot.
“Nicole achieved a lot and worked hard for it, what I was trying to say in this photo was that even with a gold crown and success there will always be people trying to pull you down and drag you under. With success comes challenges,” Christy shares.
Ice cream!
As part of her sun food selfie journey, Christy worked with an incredibly talented artist, Nina Stewart, who made this ice cream costume for her.
“She made the cone and the ice cream balls, the piece across my chest was coloured glue! This is such a fun and happy photo! I love working with other creatives.”
Succulents
This striking snap took Christy two days to make this succulent crown which she jokes was as heavy as 20 kgs. Inspired to create something odd and intriguing, Christy used the succulents in her garden to make the headpiece and created a black liquid from glycerine, cornflour and black food gel.
Olympics
The Olympics have been a hot topic, and Christy could not miss out on the opportunity to create some artistic magic inspired by the games.
“I made these rings in my hair but oh boy did I need help! Meraki Hair and Beauty were up to the challenge, it took about 30 minutes with two people wrapping and twisting my hair around these rings. Let me tell you, this was much harder to do than I expected. My mom had the job of removing my hair from the rings, she did an excellent job and I didn’t lose any hair. Go Mom!”
Marshmallows
Christy’s mom was roped on once again to help create this burst of sweet happiness.
“It took a lot of elbow grease and a few winces for me to put my hair in marshmallows like curlers. I made the marshmallow vest out of chicken wire, marshmallows and cable ties! This has been one of the popular selfies in the buildup to shaving my hair off,” the marshmallow queen explains.
And yes, you read that right. Beyond the fun, Christy has a big heart and will be shaving her head to donate hair for wigs for young cancer patients and Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer.
Christy will say goodbye to her long locks for a good cause at SLOPS on Saturday, 14 September, from 2 to 4 pm.
Anyone who donates a minimum of R100 to the Back-a-Buddy campaign will be eligible to win a prize – and there are so many up for grabs, such as vouchers, treats, books and getaway trips, to name just a few.
