Tom Read Wilson’s latest “Phrase of the Day” features a VERY South African swear word, bringing humour and joy to fans worldwide.

Global (20 August 2024) – South Africans are known for their incredible sense of humour, blending sharp wit with a flair for turning everyday expressions into something memorable. Whether it’s through slang or catchy phrases, the Rainbow Nation’s love for language is as diverse as its people.

So, when UK celebrity Tom Read Wilson introduced his “Phrase of the Day” segment, which features phrases from around the world, it’s no surprise that it took the internet by storm.

Tom, the charming and eloquent host of “Celebs Go Dating,” has a knack for making people laugh. With his endearing personality and love for words, Tom has become a beloved figure on social media, where he regularly shares his passion for language through his “Phrase of the Day” videos. These segments, often filled with humour and insightful commentary, have made him a viral sensation. But it was his foray into South African slang that truly captured the hearts of many.

A few weeks ago, Tom took on the phrase “Don’t tune me grief,” an expression many South Africans use to tell someone not to give them a hard time. The video quickly went viral, with fans delighting in Tom’s hilarious and accurate interpretation. His authentic enthusiasm for learning and celebrating South African expressions sparked a wave of suggestions from his followers, who couldn’t wait to see which phrase he would tackle next.

And boy, did Tom deliver! In his latest instalment, Tom chose a phrase that’s as authentically South African as they come—a swear word that is sure to leave you in stitches.

With his signature charm, Tom explained that the phrase “is not as bad as the ‘c’ one but closer, I think, to ‘twat’ and it can be used by telling someone not to be a ‘p**s, be lekker.”

Watch the video below:

It’s this lighthearted spirit that has endeared Tom to South Africans, who see in him a kindred spirit—someone who not only appreciates their unique way of speaking but does so with genuine joy and respect. His videos are more than just entertainment; they’re a celebration of cultural diversity and the connections that can be forged through language (even if they do contain swear words).

So, here’s to Tom Read Wilson—a true champion of language and laughter—who proves once again that humour knows no borders. We can’t wait to see which phrase he’ll tackle next, but one thing is for sure: it’s bound to bring a smile to our faces.
