A new South African podcast, ‘Straight to the Point’, is turning the mic to loud, proud and important conversations with an LGBTQI+ perspective!

South Africa (25 July 2024) — As South Africa’s podcast scene continues to grow and flourish, more and more voices, perspectives and experiences get to have their time in the ring light. Carving out a unique space for LGBTQI+ discourse is the new ‘Straight to the Point’ podcast that’s serving all things loud, proud and not spoken about enough.

Brought to life by dynamic trio The Drag Cartel, Emogan Moore, Maxine Wild and Chenal LeCap, ‘Straight to the Point’ is making sure that LGBTQIA+ discourse with South African flair (ranging from safe sex to relationships and lighter beats like pop culture) is more accessible for the local community and its allies.

“The idea to do a podcast from a queer perspective really ignited a fire in all of us,” says director Louis Du Toit. “It was crucial to create a conversation from this unique viewpoint, particularly one that isn’t widely represented in South African media.”

For Western Cape drag legend and former Miss Gay Western Cape Maxine Wild, the podcast is all too necessary for marginalised South Africans.

“It’s about creating a space where voices that are often silenced can speak loudly and proudly,” she shares.

“Our discussions are a mix of structured and spontaneous, allowing us to respond to the community’s pulse while fostering educational and engaging dialogues,” adds Emogen.

Louis furthers that ‘Straight to the Point’ is about connecting communities through perspectives by making different points of view more accessible.

“There isn’t a lot of content, especially from this community in Cape Town, that talks from this perspective. Our podcast isn’t just for the queer community; it is from the queer community, introducing this perspective to the world and fostering inclusivity.”
