Discover the inspiring journey of Kim and Wayne Allen, founders of Tiny Owls Baby Home, as they share how their compassionate initiative has provided a loving haven and a second chance at life for abandoned babies in South Africa.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (16 July 2024) – In South Africa, the plight of abandoned babies is a heart-wrenching reality, with estimates indicating between 3.7 million and 5 million orphans across the nation. Despite the pressing need for permanent homes, only about 100,000 of these children find their “forever homes” each year.

In this challenging landscape, Tiny Owls Baby Home shines with hope and love, dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for the littlest and most vulnerable members of society.

Founded in September 2018 by Kim and Wayne Allen, Tiny Owls Baby Home began in the comfort of their home, transforming a triple garage into a cosy nursery. Their journey started with the arrival of their first baby on 15 October 2018, and within just two months, the nursery was at its maximum capacity of six babies. This heartfelt initiative has since grown, with a purpose-built nursery designed to provide a warm and welcoming space for these little ones.

Over the past six years, this nurturing environment has given 59 children a second chance at life, providing them with the love and care they deserve during their critical early months.

Kim and Wayne are the compassionate visionaries behind Tiny Owls Baby Home. Together, they have four biological children and three adopted children, giving them a deep personal understanding of the adoption process.

Kim, the CEO of Tiny Owls, dedicates her time to caring for their seven children and overseeing the daily operations of the baby home. Wayne, with his expertise in financial administration, provides crucial back-office support. Their combined efforts extend beyond Tiny Owls, as they also serve on the board of Chanan54, a non-profit organization committed to advocating for and supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa.

But Tiny Owls Baby Home is not just a place; it is a movement driven by the passion and dedication of its founders and supporters. Their mission is to offer every child in their care a chance to grow in a loving environment, to feel safe, and to be prepared for the journey to their forever homes.

For those interested in learning more about Tiny Owls Baby Home, the founders recently shared their inspiring journey and mission in a podcast interview.

The story of Tiny Owls Baby Home is a beautiful reminder of the goodness in the world and the profound difference that dedicated individuals can make. With every child they welcome, Kim and Wayne Allen renew their commitment to creating a better future for South Africa’s most vulnerable. Their unwavering dedication and the support of the community continue to transform lives, one tiny owl at a time.
