It’s Official! Tatjana Schoenmaker and Rachel Kolisi’s brother Joel Smith are engaged, and their Table Mountain engagement was nothing short of a South African fairytale!

Cape Town, South Africa (28 April, 2023) — There’s a lot you’ll find atop Table Mountain; epic views, a sense of unimaginable awe and more often than not, grand gestures of love. All of the above (and especially the latter) were part of a South African fairytale recently— one a mermaid.

Tatjana Schoenmaker and Joel Smith announced a movie-moment engagement recently, against the backdrop of Table Mountain’s breathtaking scenery, and their story sounds like a Netflix romantic classic in the making.

Smith, who is the brother of South African rugby’s first lady, Rachel Kolisi, posed the question in a series of moments that’ll make anyone (sport fanatic or otherwise) root for the couple.

Schoenmaker on the other hand, is a South African Swimming Olympic champion.

Taking to social media, Schoenmaker shared:

“I am lost for words. I am flippen going to [marry] the man of me dreams. I am in absolute awe and gratefulness to have the privilege firstly to love you and now to start a new journey with you. YAYYYY YAYY YAYY GOD IS SO GOOD!!”.

Smith shared:

“I cannot believe that I get to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Both joked about how the engagement had ‘taken so long’, though their relationship only stepped into the public gaze earlier this year.

It’s Giving ‘South African Fairytale’

Meanwhile, that’s not the only exciting news in Schoenmaker’s life.

Recently, Schoenmaker nailed the qualifying times at the South African Swimming Championships; earning back her place as the 100m breaststroke legend.
