Massimo found himself stuck on Table Mountain, but thanks to Armand Du Plessis, a trail runner, he knew help would get to him soon.
Cape Town, South Africa (27 August 2021) – The Community Crime Prevention group sent out an alert for a missing person, Massimo. With the help of several parties, he was found in a pretty strange place, on top of Table Mountain in a storm!
The team quickly started scanning CCTV footage from various sources and learned that Massimo had, in fact, left his home and made use of a MyCiti Bus. They were able to track him to Table Mountain with the help of the CCTV footage.
Using the cameras set up on Table Mountain, they were able to see that a man matching Massimo’s description was stuck on the mountain in the horrid weather. Emergency personal were contacted, and a team was established; however, it would take them some time to reach the man on the mountain. At this point, Massimo had already spent a night on the mountain in terribly cold weather.
Armand Du Plessis, a trail runner, braved the weather and ran up the mountain to reach Massimo and let him know help was coming. He took food, water and warm clothes for Massimo. The Community Crime Prevention group shared the happy update that Armand had reached Massimo.
“The most incredible trail runner Armand Du Plessis, then ran up to the top to let Massimo know help was on the way while the cable way staff and management monitored the CCTV feed watching Massimo but were unable to talk to him.
Armand got to him, gave him something warm to wear and something to eat and drink while WSAR, Sanparks, Metro rescue were on the way up to bring him down.
There were so many incredible people involved in this rescues – too many names to thank! We don’t want to even think about the what ifs or what another night in this weather would have meant for this young man!

Armand shared that the rescue team had reached Massimo but would only be coming back down the mountain today. So Massimo, along with his rescuers, spent last night on the mountain as well.
