Old Mutual, in partnership with the Seed Educational Trust, is empowering school principals through the School Leadership Programme to drive positive change and improve education in South Africa.
South Africa (21 August 2024) – Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” These words have never been more relevant as South Africa continues its journey toward educational excellence. The key to this transformation lies not just in providing resources but in cultivating effective leadership and motivating teachers who can inspire the next generation. Recognising the critical role that leadership plays in education, Old Mutual, in collaboration with the Seed Educational Trust, is making a profound impact by empowering school principals to become catalysts for change.
Effective leadership and motivated teachers form the backbone of a thriving education system. When school leaders are well-equipped, they can create environments where teachers thrive and students excel.
Understanding this, Old Mutual has partnered with the Seed Educational Trust to launch the School Leadership Programme (SLP), a transformative initiative aimed at equipping school principals with the skills needed to lead with vision and purpose. The SLP, accredited by Stellenbosch University, is more than just a program—it’s a transformative initiative for schools across South Africa!
A Game-Changing Program for Principals
The School Leadership Programme is a comprehensive initiative designed to empower school principals with the tools necessary for creating lasting change. The curriculum, which leads to an NQF Level 7 qualification, includes rigorous leadership training, personal and group coaching, and residential workshops that focus on leadership and facilitative strategies. Additionally, the program incorporates personality evaluations and written assignments, ensuring that participants are not only knowledgeable but also practically equipped to implement what they’ve learned.
This program’s impact is already visible, with 46 principals from the Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces recently graduating from the SLP. These dedicated leaders are now armed with the knowledge and skills to transform their schools into centres of excellence.
“These graduates demonstrate the determination and drive of principals who are committed to enhancing education delivery,” says Khotso Tsotsotso, Acting Head of the Old Mutual Foundation.
“Their success benefits not only themselves but also uplifts entire communities as schools deliver quality education, empowering parents to help their children achieve.”
The success of the School Leadership Programme is reflected in the positive changes seen in schools where these principals lead. Teachers are more cohesive and motivated, and there is a noticeable improvement in learner performance. The ripple effect of this success extends beyond the schools, impacting the wider community by empowering parents and creating an environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
Nelson Mandela believed in the transformative power of education, and with organisations like Old Mutual and the Seed Educational Trust steadfast in their mission to empower school leaders with the skills needed to create a brighter future, South Africa is making meaningful strides toward that vision.
